Ascoli offers its visitors a magnitude of internationally known folkloristic and cultural events, like the Joust of the Quintana with its solemn procession of over 2000 people in 14th century costumes; the Carnival, where every participant is both an actor and a spectator; the Feast of Saint Emidio, patron saint of the city (August 5th); continuous art exhibits and opera performances at the Ventidio Basso Theatre; musical concerts of all genres, including classical, Italian and international jazz and rock, and other up-and-coming local talent. Every third weekend of the month, Ascoli also hosts a popular antique market.
